Phillip Nguyen | Garden Grove City Council District 2

Phillip Nguyen is a tax and budgeting expert, President/CEO of a successful Garden Grove small business, youth mentor, and community organizer running for City Council as a champion for our North Garden Grove neighborhoods and families. A refugee from Vietnam who fled the war-torn country as a teenager in 1975, Phillip Nguyen’s story is one of hard work, sacrifice, and dedicated pursuit of the American dream and ensuring a life full of opportunity for his family and his community.

After living in a military refugee camp in Pennsylvania upon arrival from Vietnam, Phillip was adopted by a family and relocated to Florida, where he finished high school. After reconnecting with his sister, he moved to California, working odd jobs while attending night classes at Santa Ana College -- all while sending money to support his family in Vietnam. He then attended Cal State Long Beach and got a full-time engineering job at Allen Bradley and later Rockwell International.

Phillip switched careers and received a certificate in tax preparation, starting his business, NP Phillip Co, which he built from the ground up into a successful company based in Garden Grove, and has owned for 26 years. As the President/CEO of NP Phillip Co. he has advised numerous businesses, families, and individuals on their taxes and finances and is an expert in budgeting. Phillip is also active in the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce, where he has helped businesses grow successfully while building stronger ties to the community.

A member of the World Martial Arts Masters Hall of Fame, Phillip has traveled the world attending and judging martial arts competitions. A Grandmaster 8th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and 5th Degree Vovinam VietVoDao, he has organized celebrations and community events and appeared on television to promote health and wellness through martial arts. Locally, he has taught, coached, and mentored local youth and has been a pillar in the community promoting fitness, discipline, and public service.

Phillip and his wife raised seven children who all attended local public schools and universities. He donates to multiple local charities and continues to promote youth leadership skills, mentoring, and volunteering within the community.
